Having Technical Problems

I'm having difficulty accessing the TCPS Orientation site on my computer.

Review the technical requirements:

  • This site is best viewed on a computer or laptop using Internet Explorer 7 or higher or Mozilla Firefox 4 or higher.
  • MAC users should use Firefox and NOT the MAC Safari browser for optimum performance and full access to all components. Since the site uses FLASH for some components, it is not compatible with the iPad.
  • Some content is presented using Adobe Acrobat Reader and FLASH which is available on most computers. Free Plugins for these browser add-ins are provided below.
  • The site also has popup windows and other javascripts to create interactivity. Please allow this content when prompted. Need help with your Pop-up Blocker? Click Here!
  • Prior to taking the quiz, make sure that your PRINTER is ready to print to ensure that you have a copy of your completion certificate.

Download Free Plugins using the links below.
Links open in a new browser window or tab!

When I try to open a PDF handout, the file is either all black or white with no content displayed.

You need to update your Adobe PDF Reader. Get Adobe Acrobat Reader

I get an error on my home computer/laptop that the server is not found but I am able to access the site from school or work. I can access other web sites from my home computer/laptop.

Most likely the Internet Service Provider (ISP) has not cycled their DNS server to make the site accessible. Contact your Internet Service Provider and provide them with the URL of the TCPS system. This should allow you to access the site from your home computer/laptop.

If you still cannot connect and need to complete orientation, use the Contact US link above to access the work-around for this issue.

When enter my Quiz Username/Password to access Orientation Content, I get an error message that I do not have the correct username/password to access the site.

You need to make sure that you use the CONTENT Username/Password to access any content on the site. You only will use the Quiz Username/Password for taking quizzes.

I have disabled the pop up blocker in my browser, but still can't access the quiz or print my certificate.

Depending on what software is installed on your computer, it is possible that you may have more than one pop-up blocker running via some additional 3rd party software such as AOL, GOOGLE, MSN, Yahoo, Norton Internet Security, etc.  You will have to disable all of them for this site to work properly.

This resource will address the most common 3rd party software popup blockers, but can not cover all the possibilities. If your pop-up blocker software is not listed, please consult your software resources to configure the software to allow pop-ups associated with TCPS.

I cannot open any documents or handouts from the TCPS Orientation site.

You need to check your computer for the Adobe Acrobat Reader plugin. If you have the plugin and continue to have difficulty, please use the Contact Us link to request assistance.

Quiz User Accounts

I need to create a User Account for AY2011-2012.

All students are required to use your unique school ID# as your username to minimize the chance of your forgetting this critical piece of information you will need in subsequent visits to the QMS. All students are required to use your unique school ID# as your username to minimize the chance of your forgetting this critical piece of information you will need in subsequent visits to the QMS.  Your school ID# is usually the number (or it may have a combination of numbers and letters) that is now used in place of your social security number to register for classes or access any of your campus accounts.  It is usually on your Student ID.

  • If you do not have a school ID#, use your first and last initials with the last four digits of your social security number.

A handout is available with detailed instructions for accessing the Quiz Management System and creating a user account. You will need the Content Username and Password provided by your instructor to access this handout.

My school is not listed in the Quiz Management System.

Contact your instructor. They will need to request that the school be added. You will not be able to complete orientation until your school is added.

I cannot see the WORD picture used to create an account in the QMS.

Verify that you have JAVA is installed. If it is not, download and install Java and re-start your computer. If you still have difficulty, please contact us using the link above.

Download Free Plugin using the link below.

Get JAVA

Don't know if you have JAVA? Test your computer here!!

I get an error message that I'm locked out of the QMS.

Close your browser and go back to the LMS again. This should clear the error message. If you still get the error message, try restarting your computer and return to the Quiz LMS again. If you still get this message, please contact us for further assistance.

If you have forgotten your password and requested a new one, check your email for a system -generated email that will include a new password. You will be prompted to change the password immediately upon entering the system. Enter the new password from the email as the OLD password and then enter the password of your choice to continue.

If you used your Student ID# or initials and last 4 of your social security number last academic year as a username, please use the contact us link to re-activate your account.

I've forgotten my username and/or password.

If you are trying to remember your username and password from AY2010-2011, all of these accounts have been archived and are no longer available. See Creating a New Quiz User Account.

If you have already set up an account for AY2011-2012, DO NOT set up a NEW account in the system. Schools are only allotted a set number of user accounts based upon student headcounts. YOU will be charged a fee by your school if you set up multiple accounts in the system.

If you have forgotten you Quiz USERNAME for AY2011-2012:

Remember that you should have used one of the following for your Username:

  • School ID #
  • First and Last Initial + last four digits of your social security number.

If you did not use any of these usernames, please use the Contact Us link to request assistance.

If you have forgotten your Quiz PASSWORD for AY2011-2012:

All passwords must be at least 6 characters in length.

Click on the Forgot You Password? link on the login screen of the TCPS Quiz Management System (QMS).

Forgot Password

You should immediately receive two emails with a system-generated password to the email address that you entered in the QMS when you set up your account - most likely your school email address if you have one. The subject line will be GeoLearning Password Reset and it will be from Learning Systems Administrator.

email

The first email will confirm that a password has been reset for your username and will follow in a second email. The second email will contain your new password.

Be sure and look in your JUNK or SPAM folder if this email is not found in your Inbox. If you did not receive this email, it is most likely blocked by your firewall due to the word "password". Use the Contact Us link instead.

You will be prompted to change this password when you next log in. Use the password that was emailed to you as the OLD password and then change your password to something you can remember . Ideally, you should write this down with your username for future reference.

Note: The system-generated password is only good for 7 days. If you fail to login and change the password in this timeframe, you will be locked out of your account.

If you have difficulty with this process, use the Contact Us link to request assistance.

My computer freezes or nothing happens when I launch the quiz.

Make sure that your computer has Java installed and that you do not have pop ups blocked. You can test your browser for Java using the link in the previous answer.

Several 3rd party addins for browsers require that you turn off pop-ups in the addin. Check this link for assistance.

Try minimizing the initial white screen that states the quiz will open in a new window - some browswer settings will cause the screen to be behind the initial white screen!

It is Friday evening and I cannot log into the Quiz Management System - or the system does not let me print a certificate.

The system has a scheduled downtime each Friday evening and may be unavailable for several hours. Try again later.

I retook my quiz to improve my original passing score but the Quiz Management System still shows the lower passing score.

The Quiz Management System will only record the first passing score. Depending upon the number of questions in a given quiz, passing score is 92.
